Hi, I'm Elyse from over at Elysie Piecie's Peace of Mind. I'm taking over Mel's blog today, so I thought I thought I'd give you a lesson about being an anglophile.
So, what is an anglophile, you ask. An anglophile, is a person who is absolutely obsessed with Britain and all things British. If you looked up the definition in the dictionary, you'd probably see me. Just kidding, but really. I've been obsessed with Britain for ages, so I thought I'd impart my awesome British loving skills on ya'll. Here are my easy steps to follow steps to becoming an anglophile.
1. Learn how to speak the Queen's English.
The trick to speaking the Queen's English is exaggerating your vowels and adding r's to the end of words. A few examples include:

  • Banana becomes bah-nah-nah.

  • Zebra becomes zeb-brahhh

  • Linda becomes Linder
For further reference, please see this awesome video from Charlie is So Cool Like. It refuses to upload, but is still a good fun. Charlie is a cool British Bloke who is teaching his mate from across the pond how to speak "English". See how I'm speaking "English" there.

2. Read up on your English customs. Two of my favorite books that get give me my insider's information are: Notes from Across the Pond and The Angl0-Files.

3. Have a British themed movie/tv night.

TV wise I suggest Coupling, Doctor Who, Top Gear, French and Saunders, and Ab Fab. Movie wise, I am always promoting Love Actually and Pirate Radio.

4. Make a British themed playlist. Here's just a few suggestions:

Rebel, Rebel--David Bowie
Sympathies for the Devil--The Rolling Stones
Let it Be--The Beatles
Twentysomething--Jamie Cullum
He Won't Go--Adele
Hysteria--Muse
London Calling --The Clash

5. Love or Hate the monarchy, but embrace Duchess Catherine's sense of fashion.

Kate Middleton

I hope you've enjoyed your lesson on becoming an anglophile.
